UK’S TOP 20 AMATEUR FILMMAKERS FACE PUBLIC VOTE FOR PLACE AT JAMESON EMPIRE AWARDS

Jameson Empire ‘Done in 60 Seconds’ competition launches vote to find the best amateur filmmaker

February 2012 – Empire Magazine and Jameson Irish Whiskey are urging the British public to get behind their favourite amateur filmmaker and vote for the best one minute remake in the annual Jameson Empire ‘Done in 60 seconds’ (DISS) competition. Voting on the UK’s top 20 entries is open now until 29th February on www.empireonline.com/awards2012/diss with the top five selected to attend the DISS Global Final on 23rd March. There, the top 5 finalists from around the world will be selected and invited to attend the 2012 Jameson Empire Awards on Sunday 25th March.

DISS ambassador and BAFTA Rising Star nominee Chris O’Dowd, spoke of his support for the competition and the opportunity it gives young aspiring film-makers: “Done in 60 Seconds is a great way for amateur filmmakers to show-case their talent in the film world.  This is a truly brilliant opportunity for film enthusiasts to show off their creativity and editing skills.  I would love to have had something like this when I was starting out; Jameson and Empire have created something truly unique and exciting for promising filmmakers.”

For the last four years Empire Magazine, in association with Jameson, has annually held the ‘Done in 60 Seconds’ competition. The competition gives amateur film fans around the world the chance to remake any film of their choice in no more than 60 seconds.
The shortlist of 20 film enthusiasts, selected from more than 90 initial entries in the UK by Empire magazine, will battle it out to secure one of five UK places at the Jameson Empire ‘Done in 60 Seconds’ Global Final. A panel of judges, headed up by Chris O’Dowd, will select the best five entries at the Final and these five finalists will all attend the star-studded Jameson Empire Awards on Sunday 25th March, where the DISS 2012 winner will be announced and rub shoulders with the stars of big screen as they receive their award on stage.

Jameson UK Brand Manager, Evgenia Matthews added:
“Jameson has built a strong connection with the world of film over the last few years, starting with the creation of the Jameson Short Film Award, the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, the Independent Spirit awards, Jameson Cult Film Club and finally the Jameson Empire Awards.  We are extremely passionate about the world of film and therefore supporting an award such as ‘Done in 60 Seconds’ really gives budding amateur filmmakers a platform to showcase their talent to the world, which is truly unique.”
