SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE COLLEGE FILM & TV PRODUCTION DEGREE COURSE

PRODUCES OUTSTANDING STUDENTS, BEST VALUE AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

South Staffordshire College is believed to be the only FE establishment in the country where students can complete a full degree course in Film & Television Production without having to physically move on to University.

The course is delivered at the College’s Lichfield Campus in association with Staffordshire University and is based on material written by South Staffordshire College Lecturer Terry Foster.  While Terry’s work has been proliferated to other colleges, South Staffordshire College remains unique among its peers in offering the full three-year degree course within its own portals.

In addition, students have the benefit of on-site commercial experience working on assignments for Armoris, the fully-fledged Film & TV production business which operates in the commercial environment, taking on projects for public and private sector clients.

The Lichfield Campus of South Staffordshire College is also the spiritual home of the “Inspire” Arts Festival, an annual event that has a full length feature film produced by the students at its heart and is delivered in association with the renowned Garrick Theatre.

The partnerships between high-level academic qualifications and real life commercial world experience has a powerful attraction for employers.  Terry Foster illustrates the point by quoting some current examples of student success.

“On both the Foundation degree and BSc, South Staffordshire College works with small cohorts of learners allowing for considerably more one-to-one contact time than would normally be expected from courses of this kind. Our overriding aim is to help these learners develop sustainable skills for employment - give them the skills to go out and get a job, and we are successful at that. Presently a former student is editing programmes for broadcast on television and this year several of our students have gained meaningful employment in the industry within weeks of graduating. One of these is now heading the video production unit at the National Design Academy in Nottingham."

There is a further compelling issue for both students and parents, which is the question of affordability.  ‘Going local’ for a degree has obvious benefits in terms of travel and accommodation but there is a further calculation to be made.  Fees are likely to be up to a third less, a not inconsiderable saving, especially when the quality of the course and the unique opportunities of commercial experience available at the Lichfield Campus are taken into consideration.

Rob Boucherat, Deputy Principal at South Staffordshire College, is a passionate advocate of employability as a fundamental of the student experience.

“This course provides a full degree at around two-thirds the cost of other establishments”, he says “and that is outstanding value.  The reputation of the Film & TV Production course continues to grow with the Inspire Festival, the activities of Armoris and the achievements of its Alumni.  Students who come here on this course are making a sound investment for their future and opening up career opportunities in a dynamic and exciting industry.”

NOW TV launches location based game to promote new £9.99 set top box

To celebrate the launch of the NOW TV Box, the tiny device which turns your TV into a smart TV and opens up a world of Sky content for an unbeatable price of £9.99, NOW TV have launched the #NOWTVBox Hunt campaign which aims to let people ‘look through the eyes of the box’ and guess where in the world they are.

Users are encouraged to visit the #NOWTVBox hunt website, where they’ll be dropped into a location relevant to film and sports content available on NOW TV using some neat Google Maps and Street View integration. They must then guess where in the world they are by placing a pin on a world map. They can get clues to the content and location by sharing to Facebook and Twitter and guessing which film or sports event the location is from. Points are then awarded based on how far the pin was dropped from the actual location, with the highest scorers each day winning TV’s and NOW TV Boxes.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the NOW TV Box and highlight the Sky Movies, sports and entertainment content available, all without a contract.

The campaign runs until 25 October and you can get involved here: www.nowtvboxhunt.co.uk
