Michael Shannon, Winona Ryder, James Franco, Ray Liotta and Chris Evans star in acclaimed thriller THE ICEMAN. Out to rent and own on DVD and Blu-ray from September 30, THE ICEMAN is a gritty thriller with an incredible central performance from Michael Shannon, which prompted The Independent to describe him as “arguably the most exciting US screen actor since Pacino and DeNiro.”

THE ICEMAN is based on the true story of mob hitman Richard "The Iceman" Kuklinski, who was reportedly responsible for over 200 murders.

Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon; Man of Steel) and his wife Deborah (Winona Ryder;Heathers) appear to have a model American life, living with their children in an idyllic suburban house. Unbeknownst to Deborah and the kids, when Kuklinski goes off to work in the morning — or, on occasion, in the middle of dinner or the middle of the night — he is carrying out executions at the behest of a local crime family.

THE ICEMAN shows the development of Kuklinski's career from the 1950s through the 1980s, showing how he employed a wide variety of methods (guns, knives, poisonings etc.) that made it difficult to trace all the fatalities to a single killer. THE ICEMAN also stars Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), James Franco (Oz The Great and Powerful), David Schwimmer (TVs Friends), Stephen Dorff (Immortals) and Chris Evans (Captain America).

Snap-Happy Brits Take Over 600 Million Photos a Week

·         The UK is a nation of snappers taking over 600 million photos every week

·         52% of Britons take photos on their phones and store an average of 180 pictures on their devices

·         Around 1 in 5 snappers have lost photos due to a broken device, 5% due to a stolen device and around 3 in 10 Brits do not back up their digital photos

·         People (51%), landscapes (19%) and animals/ pets (11%) are our favourite subjects

LONDON, 6th AUGUST, 2013 - Thanks to smartphone, tablet and digital camera technology, image hungry Britain now takes an average of over 600 million photos in the week. According to an online study commissioned by SmugMug* the world’s largest independent photo sharing website, which launches to the UK public this week, most of our snaps feature our friends and family, followed by our beautiful countryside with our pets coming in third.

With the advancements in technology, our photography habits have changed irrevocably resulting in a photographic Tsunami. The online SmugMug survey found that Brits take a mean average of 19 photographs in an ordinary week (not taking in account holidays or special occasions). With 47.75 million* adult residents in the UK, that’s a lot of photos – SmugMug estimates over 600 million in fact**.

Over half of Brits online (52%) take photos primarily on their phones and 32% keep them there. Of those that do an average of 180 photos are currently stored on their mobiles.

Yet when asked how many of us had lost images due to a broken (21%), stolen device (5%) or human error (30%), 56% replied yes they had. Furthermore almost 3 in 10 (28%) Brits admit that they do not back up their photos, with women (32%) being the worst culprits at not ensuring their photographic memories are safe for the future.

Don Macaskill, CEO of SmugMug, commented that “Our photos and precious memories have never been so at risk because of technology but thanks to technology we can keep them safe for the future. We've built a product that's not only the most stunning service you've ever seen, but offers unlimited security and personalisation like the web has never seen.  SmugMug begins with stunning and ends with personal”.

SmugMug commissioned the survey to discover more about the photo-storing and sharing habits of Britain ahead of launching its first fully formed consumer offering in the UK this week. SmugMug will launch its cloud based photo service, already a major hit in the US to UK customers, offering a safe and secure home for the best and most important of our images. With high level security settings, our 600million photos are safe from theft or copying, yet through links and passwords, our images can be shared with friends, family and loved ones. Best of all, images are presented in beautiful website templates and in the highest resolution, and are accessible instantly and on any device. SmugMug has been used for over ten years by the world’s leading photographers and is now available to consumers in the UK.

*Conducted by YouGov for SmugMug
** SmugMug have used an adult population figure of 47,754,569 as a base, and then taken 70% of that (as 30% of the original sample does not take photos during an average week).  This gives us 33,428,198 and this is then multiplied by 19 (the mean amount of photographs taken).

The documentary will be repeated on Sat 17th Aug at 8pm, Wed 18th Sep at 10am, and Sat 21st Sep at 9am and will then be available to watch online atwww.commuitychannel.org

Please send this on to anyone you think would like to watch the first documentary to expose indefinite detention in the UK.

Here is a little bit about the film....

Aissata, Fouad and Saleh are caught in immigration limbo at the hands of the Home Office, detained for almost four years between them and counting. How long must they wait for freedom and at what cost?

'How Long is Indefinite?' explores the trauma of the unknown; Saleh fears he will never see his son grow up, Fouad to marry and start a life with his fiancé.  Six attempts to ‘remove’ Aissata all failed at the last minute, and drove her to hunger strike for 28 days.  They cannot be removed from the UK, yet they remain detained in prison with no end in sight and at an average cost of over £40,000 each, per year to the tax payer. This film is the first documentary to expose detention without time limit being exercised on thousands of immigrants in Britain every day.

To find out more about how the film was made and the issue of detention see howlongisindefinite.wordpress.com

Many thanks and we look forward to hearing your feedback on the film on e-mail, facebook or twitter.

All the best from the 'How Long is Indefinite?' documentary team

 THE ALAN PARTRIDGE PLAYER
AVAILABLE TO BUY ON iTUNES NOW
#RadioAlanApp
Macintosh HD:Users:james:Dropbox:Touch Fantastic:Alan Partridge App:PR:app-on-iphone.jpg
From his early appearances on Radio 4’s On The Hour, through the graveyard shifts on Norfolk Nights to his most recent slot as the host of Mid Morning Matters, Alan Partridge has always been a radio man.
Now it is (virtually) possible to create his radio show for yourself thanks to the launch of the official Alan Partridge app, Radio Alan: The Alan Partridge Player.  The app is now available to buy on iTunes for £0.99 to coincide with the debut of Alan’s first feature film Alpha Papa in cinemas nationwide on 7th August 2013.
The app is designed to play audio clips of Alan talking ‘live’ on-air from “Mid-Morning Matters” interspersed with songs from YOUR iTunes library, creating the impression that you’re actually listening to Alan’s radio show live on North Norfolk Digital.  So as you listen to music on your iPhone, you can also ponder Alan’s talking points: “You’re stuck on a desert island and only allowed one condiment, what is it to be?”
As Partridge’s loyal fans know, Alan’s radio segues often end with him introducing a song in his own inimitable style (e.g. “Keep your clubs away from his young, it’s Seal!”) The app will recognise if you have a Seal track in your iTunes library and play that song next.
The app also has a ‘Rate My Tunes’ option, whereby Alan rates your iTunes library. If he likes your taste in music you may get a “Back of the Net!” rating that you can share with your friends on Facebook.
To enhance the app experience even further additional in-app purchases include; A ‘Partridge Playlist’ featuring some of Alan’s favourite artists and additional audio clips are available to buy for £0.99.
Radio Alan: The Alan Partridge Player was conceived by Brighton-based app development studio Touch Fantastic and developed in collaboration with Baby Cow Productions and BBC Worldwide.

Lithuanian film Emotional Police (dir Lukrecija Vaupšaite, 2012, 13min) has been sold to Eurochannel TV,  a channel watched by 25 million viewers worldwide, reaching 11 million households. The film was created by sisters Lukrecija and Marija Vaupsaites – a.k.a. Sisters V – imagine them as the junior female version of the Coen brothers.

Emotional Police (link to trailer: http://vimeo.com/36089355) is about an institution where people come to register crimes such as heartbreak or lack of attention. It has been praised by European Film Academy member and established Lithuanian director and producer Arunas Matelis, who called it an “unexpected and stylish film”.

Interesting facts:

Emotional Police features performances by three generations of the director’s family: the female lead is played by her sister, Marija Vaupšaite (who works as an investment assistant at Ingenious Media); the inspector of Emotional Police and male lead is portrayed by the director’s grandfather, Jonas Algimantas Baranauskas; and her mother Audrone Vaupšiene (a famous Lithuanian artist) plays the role of one of the victims, who comes to register an emotional crime.

At the moment, Sisters V – Lukrecija and Marija Vaupšaites – have finished their third short film Can Flowers Grow from Concrete? - a story about a young woman, who is incapable of adjusting herself to a superficial and consumerist society.

Between 2000 and 2004 Eurochannel was part of a joint venture between Canal+ and Vivendi, and since 2004 it is a privately-owned company. It is an innovative TV channel that is available on cable, satellite, and digital channels such as Google TVAmazon,  and through Android apps.

“Sirk's penultimate masterpiece” – Geoff Andrew, Time Out

SYNOPSIS

Douglas Sirk — the master of the Hollywood melodrama — turns back to his native Germany at the time of the Second World War for the film that would stand as his penultimate American feature: A Time to Love and a Time to Die. A CinemaScope production staged on a grand scale, Sirk's picture nevertheless pulsates with an intimacy that has known longing for too long, and seethes with the repression of emotions poised to explode like bombs.

John Gavin plays Ernst Gräber, a soldier on the Russian-German Front in 1944 venturing home to Hamburg on a rare furlough. Upon arrival, he discovers a city that bears little resemblance to the one he left behind — and so, through the rubble of the air-raids, he searches desperately for fragments of his family's shattered lives. But amid the shards, he falls in love with Elisabeth (Liselotte Pulver), the charming daughter of his parents' doctor, and thus activates a magnetism that compels both individuals toward one another in love, even as it hurtles them headlong into epochal death.

Adapted from the novel by Erich Maria Remarque (the author of All Quiet on the Western Front, who also makes a cameo appearance in Sirk's picture), A Time to Love and a Time to Die takes its literary source and sculpts it anew out of matter made from color, decor, and performance — and arguably bests the novel on all aesthetic levels. Yet perhaps nothing can better summarise the power of Sirk's film — or of his entire body of work — than these words from the movie's trailer: "Their pounding hearts drowned out the sound of chaos thundering around them." — The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present Douglas Sirk's 1958 masterpiece for the first time on Blu-ray anywhere in the world.
