The Empire Cinema Leicester Square, London, UK, once again hosts the Film4 FrightFest this August Bank Holiday weekend. The home of horror, the festival has been running at this location since 2005 and has rapidly grown in popularity. With five days of screenings (22nd -26th August 2013), audiences can expect to be scared witless with a devilishly delightful line-up of premieres, previews and special screenings of fantasy and horror films. This year's festival opens with the world premiere of The Ford Brothers' latest offering, The Dead 2: India. The first international zombie film shot in India, it follows on from the Ford Brothers' critically acclaimed zombie road movie, The Dead. Set against the scenery of Rajasthan, the film offers a far bigger canvas with plenty of thrilling action, death-defying stunts and, of course, lots of fright. This is one of ten world premieres to be screened in London for the festival, with others including Banshee Chapter, produced by Star Trek's Zachary Quinto; Christoph Behl's Argentinean apocalyptic, The Decent; Kit Ryan'sDementamania; and retro Spanish chiller For Elisa.
The UK premiere of Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado's revenge thriller, Big Bad Wolves closes the festival. Described as 'part OLDBOY, part Hitchcock and part Coen Brothers', the film is a black comedy thriller that sees a series of brutal murders put the lives of three men on a collision course. Back in 2010 Keshales and Papushado's Rabies was the most requested film on the FrightFrest line-up so Big Bad Wolves is sure a see the festival conclude with a bang.
With many films expected to sell out, this year the festival organisers have introduced FrightFest Extra. Securing additional screening slots at Empire 2, many of the bigger films will be given repeat screenings, thus creating more opportunities to enjoy the films. Festival goers can choose between three ticket types: festival passes, day passes or individual tickets for single films.
