FUTURE MY LOVE film celebrates EIFF world premiere

and Michael Powell nomination with concert by acclaimed Swedish New Tango Orquesta

Maja Borg’s documentary is nominated for The Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2012. FUTURE MY LOVE is supported by Creative Scotland.

EDINBURGH – The film FUTURE MY LOVE by Scottish-based filmmaker Maja Borg will celebrate its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) this week (Thursday 21 June). This documentary essay has been produced by Sonja Henrici at the Scottish Documentary Institute together with Lisbet Gabrielsson from Sweden.

FUTURE MY LOVE challenges our collective and personal utopias in search of freedom, claiming that “economy is a human relationship.” At the brink of losing the idealistic love of her life, Maja Borg takes us on a poetic road trip through the financial collapse, exploring a radically different economic and social model proposed by 95-year-old futurist Jacque Fresco.

Maja Borg said: ‘The free market is a failed utopia but we choose to stay. Like in an abusive relationship, we have lost our confidence to live without it. To challenge economy is to challenge ourselves, which is far harder than to complain about the banking system.’

The music for FUTURE MY LOVE was composed by the award-winning New Tango Orquesta from Sweden. Six acclaimed musicians have taken modern tango to new levels.

Celebrating the film’s launch, New Tango Orquesta will perform exclusively in Edinburgh on Wednesday 27 June.

Josef Kallerdahl (New Tango Orquesta) described their unique approach: ‘How much tango there is left in New Tango Orquesta is up to the listener to decide. At the end of the day, every concert is a new experience. That’s the only thing we know for sure.’

The film and the concert are supported by Creative Scotland. Other investors of the production include the Swedish Film Institute and Swedish Television.

Leslie Finlay (Creative Scotland) said: ‘Creative Scotland is delighted about the film and the filmmaker’s nomination for the Michael Powell Award. This is a wonderful recognition for Maja Borg’s vision in her debut feature. It showcases the artistic opportunities Scotland offers to filmmakers.’

Named in homage to one of Britain’s most original directors and inaugurated in 1993, the Michael Powell Award rewards imagination and creativity in British filmmaking.
