Screen East Online Search Engine Launched

Screen East, the Regional Screen Agency for the East of England, is delighted to launch their new improved online search engines designed to source filming locations or locally based crew and facilities companies. Over 4,800 locations, crew and facilities in the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk can now be accessed online from anywhere in the world, anytime.

Screen East promotes the East of England as the ideal location for film and television production. This valuable resource has been created to showcase the huge variety of diverse and unique locations, skills and services available in the region. It means that film and television production companies will now have instant access to thousands of location photographs and crew and facility contacts to plan and support their shoot. Kerry Ixer, Head of Locations said: “We are thrilled with the new search engines as we can now serve the filming industry’s needs at a time of day that is convenient to them wherever they are in the world.”

The economic impact of the film and creative industries is vast. In 2005/06 an estimated £25.7 million was spent on location filming in the region with the bulk of spend going to location owners, local suppliers, accommodation providers and the local workforce. Location filming therefore provides a valuable stimulus to the local economy and the enhancement of Screen East’s online searches will assist those registered with us to financially benefit from filming activity. If based in the East of England, the entire service is free of charge for anyone to register their property, freelance skills or services with Screen East.

Productions to have shot in the region have included the biggest names in film including James Bond, Star Wars, Batman Begins, Saving Private Ryan, and the

biggest production in the UK at present, Harry Potter. There are on average six production crews shooting on location in the East of England every day.
