Secret Game in Xbox 360 Advert
The latest Xbox 360 advert has a hidden game within it that can be accessed by pressing the red interactive button on your digital remote.
With the aim of engaging viewers in the world of Xbox 360, on pressing red the viewer is presented with a high-energy and fast- paced video that reveals the games and features of the new Xbox 360.
Finding a way into the hidden game is harder but if you keep your eyes on the movie (especially the scene with the yellow car) you may notice the word 'EGG'.
To get past level one, you need to use the keypad on the Sky remote control spell out egg (3,4,4).
Level 2: Once there you will see a couple of lambs saying "ofni" and you will need to work out what button on the remote to press to get you through.
Level 3: The final level is the hardest, but Easter eggs had to start at some time. There are seven eggs and one egg has a bow with "Yyyy" written on it. You have to work out what four digits to press to crack the game.
Depending how far you get through the levels, you can get an award for Novice,
Skilled, Masterful, and Legend and you can have your game tag registered on the
advert.
Leading DiTV agency Weapon7, in collaboration with digital agency AKQA, has
created the interactive launch campaign for Microsoft's Xbox 360. The initiative
airs nationally on Sky on the 22nd of December and will run for a month. The
spot can be accessed through four different commercials and the Sky a-z.
Stephen McGill, Head of Marketing for Xbox UK, says: "In this instance the
medium of digital TV has given us a fantastic opportunity to show the world of
Xbox 360 and be able to excite and engage a traditionally exclusive audience.
Weapon7's idea is inspired from the core gaming audience and is a truly
innovative way to add an extra element of engagement and talkability."
"This commercial is the first in DiTV to allow viewers to play with the
advertising," says Steven Hess, managing partner of Weapon7. "For those who
choose to go deeper into the ad, they will discover that there is more to it
than meets the eye. However, we're not giving away any secrets."

IN-FUSIO joins O2s growing number of i-mode content providers
30th November 2005: O2 has today announced it has partnered with IN-FUSIO to provide award-winning mobile games to i-mode consumers in the UK. The partnership sees IN-FUSIO's site available immediately and features an exciting line up of mobile games helping IN-FUSIO to build a close relationship with increasingly mobile consumers. The site offers mobile consumers access to IN-FUSIO's play+ mobile games on its i-mode site. As an official partner, IN-FUSIO will be available through i-mode's intuitive interface under Games on the i-mode menu.
The partnership forms part of i-mode's unique content structure through which IN-FUSIO will be able to further develop and deploy sophisticated, secure commercial content to consumers. It allows IN-FUSIO to expand its revenue opportunities by selling its content through O2's generous revenue sharing model. As a service IN-FUSIO will collect its revenue from subscription based services billed directly through the users phone bill permitting it to concentrate on its core business. i-mode is a flexible business model that facilitates both subscription based and non-subscription based content.
IN-FUSIO, which already supplies Java games to O2, is among the first game sites to be launched on the i-mode service from O2. Having already launched on six
i-mode portals across Europe the announcement further confirms IN-FUSIO's leading position as a developer and service provider for mobile games.
IN-FUSIO's Play + on i-mode will launch with mobile games including: South Park, Zoo Tycoon 2 Mobile, Terminator I'm Back, Banjo-Kazooie Missions, Solitaire Gold and Age of Empires II Mobile.
Grahame Riddell, Head of i-mode Marketing for O2 UK said: "We are pleased to be working with IN-FUSIO to offer its mobile games to our customers. IN-FUSIO has managed to capture the benefits of i-mode and joined the i-mode ecosystem to offer its users a compelling mobile experience. O2 wants to make developing mobile content as attractive and as easy for businesses as possible. The building of a strong content community both on and off portal will be critical to the success of the services. Our research clearly shows that consumers are willing to look at and pay for mobile content, and expectations are tied closely to a user's experience of the Internet. Use will be driven by periods of downtime, communication applications, like e-mail, and situational driven use, when information is needed instantly. The overriding point for consumers is that convenience is key."
Udi Jacobi, Director of Sales, EMEA and South America for IN-FUSIO adds: "Following the successful launch of our Java games with O2 earlier this year we are delighted to be selected as one of the first mobile game offerings, at launch, on the i-mode service from O2. IN-FUSIO's strategy has always been to provide the consumer with an easy-to-use and fun mobile game experience. This partnership will enable us to reach even more mobile gamers with a service and playability that millions have already come to expect."

JAPANESE CINEMATOGRAPHER SHOJI UEDA AND HIS ?ASIAN EYES?
Bangkok, THAILAND ? In addition to the annual Crystal Lens Award, the BKKIFF?s Cinematographer?s Day this year will also give recognition to master cinematographers in Asia through its new segment: ?Asian Eyes?, a celebration of excellence in cinematography in Asian films. A newly created Golden Kinnaree award ? the Asian Eyes Award ? will be bestowed to Japanese cinematographer Shoji Ueda at the festival?s Awards Gala ceremony in February 2006.
Mr. Ueda ? also known as Masaharu Ueda ? worked most closely with the Japanese auteur Akira Kurosawa in films such as Kagemusha, Ran, Dreams, Rhapsody in August, Madadayo, and After the Rain. He was honoured with 3 Japan Academy Prizes for Best Cinematography, as well as

FORMER CARNABY STREET CLOTHES DESIGNER TO THE STARS MAKES SECOND STELLAR CAREER IN CLAY
The work of a remarkable woman, Sally Tuffin is on sale at Bonhams next Design Sale on December 7. Where her Carnaby Street creations once clothed Pop Royalty, she now designs pots that are acknowledged by experts to be stars in their own right.
Paul McCartney and the Beatles were once clients at `Foale and Tuffin', buying her cutting edge clothes, as were all those who could claim to be part of the scene in 1960's Britain. Now at the age of 70 Sally Tuffin has once more made a name for herself - with clay - and this time she rivals not Mary Quant but the illustrious names of 20th century British pottery, such as Clarice Cliff and William Moorcroft.
Each year Bonhams Design Department commissions unique one-off works by Sally Tuffin, and at this sale on December 7 at New Bond Street, no fewer than 16 of her bold clever items are on sale among the hundreds of other items on sale.
Perhaps one of her most striking works is titled `March of the Penguins' - a piece which features no fewer than 40 individually modelled black and white birds edging their way down an ice flow, circling closer to the sea and then casting themselves adrift. This arresting work is estimated to attract bids in the region of £1,500 to £2,000 but Design Department Director, Mark Oliver, says: "We were not surprised to get a winning bid of £11,000 for one of her pieces recently. She is up there with William Moorcroft, Clarice Cliff and Henry Doulton. But she is working now and her contemporary work is already attracting prices in the league of these giants of the ceramics world."
Lot 525 'March of the Penguins', a vase, is a slightly tapering vessel painted in pale blue/green to resemble an iceberg, applied with a spiralling slope with a procession of penguins queueing up to dive into the sea, decorated by Marcus Jubb, thrown by Rory McLeod, models by Alan Pepper 18cm high, stamped and painted marks, with 'ST des' and number B72.
Lot 532 'Octopus' is another vase with a sea theme. This tube-lined and painted with two of the large creatures, four of their tentacles gripping the rim, decorated is by Heidi Warr, and thrown by Rory McLeod. It is 35.5cm high, stamped and painted marks, with 'ST des' and number B66. Estimate £500-600.
Mark Oliver adds: "We identified Sally Tuffin about five years ago as someone exceptional. She has a remarkable eye, whether producing fashion designer clothes or eye-catching ceramics. Her work will doubtless continue to enthral an ever growing group of loyal enthusiasts."

29 Oct. 2005 : Amersham Arms, 388 New Cross Rd (opposite. New Cross station), SE14 - 8pm-2am.
Essentially, a night of fresh filmmaking talent with an emphasis on the music featured - some are promos, others are about bands and some use the medium of sound as an integral device that brings the most out of the visual element.
The directors are music fans and individuals whose passion is cinematography and they are trying to forge a career with their exceptional talents - and it is only a matter of time before they are commercially recognised.
The established names of Radiohead and Patrick Jones are juxtaposed with the so-called 'unknowns' - the next generation of movers, shakers and big industry players to form an intimate night of honest expression, creativity and entertainment all glued together with exceptional VJ talents.

Black World Autumn Season
bfi (British Film Institute) Black World, the six-month initiative highlighting black creativity talent in film and television, represents just the first step in an ongoing commitment by the bfi to reach out to new audiences across the country.
Black World enters its fifth month with a new line-up of projects with a particular focus on providing creative learning opportunities for young people and professionals and new opportunities to see classic films as well as latest releases.
To mark Black History season (October and November) bfi Black World have joined forces with Film London to present Pioneer Pictures, a tour of landmark feature films by the first generation of black film talent. The three films provide historical reflections of black London and the directors and cast of the films will be on hand to discuss the makings of the films. Pressure, directed by Horace Ove, (1975) deals with the realities faced by Britain?s first Caribbean generation and is popularly regarded as the first black British feature ever made. Black Joy (1975) directed by Antony Simmons, is a wry comedy following the adventures of a naïve Guyanese man new to London and Burning an Illusion (1981), directed by Menelik Shabazz, is a sensitive and entertaining love story which traces a young black couple?s growing political awareness. Pioneer Pictures will also be touring to key cities around the UK
Burning An Illusion has been released on DVD as part of bfi Black World. The DVD release of Pressure will follow on 24 October. Black Joy is also available on DVD released by Fremantle Home Entertainment. Online student notes have been produced for Burning an Illusion and Pressure by bfi Education and are available from www.bfi.org.uk/education/teaching/blackworld.
Also in partnership with Film London, bfi Black World will launch New Horizons, a professional development project for emerging and mid-level black producers. Supported by Middlesex University and the Times bfi London Film Festival, New Horizons aims to address some of the issues raised in recent research that shows inequalities within the industry. New Horizons Newcomers will be held at Middlesex University on October 8th and 9th 2005. The programme will comprise of practical discussions centred on the role of the producer including developing fiction and factual projects, raising finance for shorts & features, marketing and distribution. Guests include representatives from a variety of funding agencies, independent producers and directors. New Horizons Masters is aimed at mid-level producers and will take place during the Times bfi London Film Festival. Participants will take part in an international masterclass with award-winning producer Effie T Brown (Executive Producer of Jane Campion?s In the Cut) and receive an Associate Delegates Pass to the festival.
Also during the Times bfi London Film Festival, the David Lachappelle's knockout documentary Rize has been branded a bfi Black World gala. An intimate, extraordinarily fresh portrayal of the LA dance phenomenon, ?krumping?, Rize shows dancers moving at what seems like impossible speed, busting frantic, aggressive moves to booming hip hop, mixing eclectic dance styles, from ballet to African and sporting distinctive make up and costumes. Rize is as striking and brilliant as Lachappelle?s fashion photography. A series of festival education events also fall under the bfi Black World banner including an educational screening of the Sundance Festival winner Hustle and Flow (Dir: Craig Brewer) and the South African adaptation A Boy Called Twist (Dir: Time Greene). Both screenings will be accompanied by introductions by guest speakers. The Focus on South African Cinema panel will provide an opportunity for young audiences to engage with this region?s developing industry.
In 1959 Black Orpheus introduced the world to the music, sensuality and colour of Rio de Janeiro?s Carnival and gave jazz hipsters a new, infectious style ? the bossa nova. Based on a Brazilian play and inspired by the legendary Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Marcel Camus? dazzling second feature won both the 1959 Palme d?Or at Cannes and the Oscar for best foreign language film in 1960.
This enduring classic will be seen at its best in the new print to be released on 4 November by bfi Distribution.

Tempo: The Blues Came Walkin', documents the 3rd American Folk/Blues Festival with performances from Sonny Boy Williamson, Lightnin? Hopkins, Howlin? Wolf and more. Blues and Gospel Train hosts outstanding performances from Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and Cousin Joe Pleasants and Nothin' but the Blues joins blues legends in the studio with performances from Big Joe Turner, Mississippi Wallace, Little Brother Montgomery and Junior Wells.
Lastly, The Blues Keep Comin?, shows BBC clips from the 60s to the 80s, including John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Etta James, BB King and Taj Mahal.
To support the Black World TV season, broadcast journalist and critic Jacqueline Springer will present four illustrated talks on the cultural impact of cinema on modern black music. Contemporary Black Culture: How Soundtracks Saved the Day will look at how reggae's cinematic reputation evolved, discover the growing importance of the movie soundtrack and why the rise of the rapper-actor has taken so many by surprise. Also as part of the bfi?s ongoing educational programme, Floella Benjamin presents Coming to England, a stunning film adaptation of her autobiographical account of her journey from Trinidad to Britain in the 1960s. A question and answer session will follow.
A new youth project pioneered by bfi Black World is Nu-Visions, a web micro-site created for young people (16-24 year olds), by young people. Featuring articles, reviews of events, films and DVD?s, information on how to get into the industry, and diaries from key industry players, the micro-site will launch in October. Housed on the bfi Black World main site, Nu-Visions will provide a space for young creatives to further develop their interest in film, television and the related arts.
Produced by Arts Council England Visual Arts department and decibel, Necessary Journeys explores the ways in which art connects with film and the moving image. Artists working across a variety of art forms embark on a series of journeys - historical, physical and creative. Fernando Arias? search for a non geographical home takes him to the most remote tip of South America, while Ralph Hoyte travels across Japan and Oreet Ashery returns to Israel to examine the Palestinian Right to Return. Through the artists in residence programme, national and regional film and photography archives open up their collections to poet Jackie Kay, digital artist Keith Piper and artist, writer and researcher susan pui san lok. Each artist has the opportunity to excavate, recreate and re-imagine the past, present and future, in their chosen medium. Necessary Journeys will be brought to life as a book in November with new writing by Bernardine Evaristo, Kitty Hauser, Sukhdev Sandhu and Sarah Wood. The book will be illustrated by original artwork and visual documentation created by the artists involved throughout the project. All artists will discuss and present their work at a major international symposium at the Tate Modern on the 11th and 12th of November which includes guest speaker Caryl Phillips.
Finally, the Black Screen Icons on-line project, led by Every Generation Media, will soft launch at the end of the initial Black World project phase in November. Launching next year, Black Screen Icons will provide a public opportunity to vote for the nation?s favourite black film and TV director, actor and composer with special focus on British screen talent. JVC’s GY-HD101E camcorder used to film footage for the “Used Car Roadshow”
Experienced broadcast cameraman selects JVC
London, 03 October 2005 - The JVC GY-HD101E camcorder is been used by lighting and broadcast cameraman Tom Paterson of Forager Films Limited, to shoot programme footage for the “Used Car Roadshow”.
Produced by Daisybeck Productions, based in Leeds, the Used Car Roadshow has been traveling all over the UK meeting buyers and sellers, offering tips and advice. The show is broadcast on Men and Motors, Sky Programme Guide 136 and is scheduled to continue right up until Christmas. It has been running since June 2005 and is broadcast every Monday at 8pm and then repeated on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 1pm.
Tom Paterson has 16 years of cameraman experience in primetime broadcast television and has worked on BBC’s “Ground Force” series. Tom explains how the JVC camera is being used. “Footage is shot using three cameras including the JVC GY-HD101E camera. With each show's links needing to be shot in one 12 hour period at a major car event around the country, it is crucial to be able to inter-cut between the three cameras.”
“The GY-HD101E came into its own with its easy hand-held operation. Working in the confined space of car interiors is made easy by the GY-HD101E's reduced size and simple additions like the lockable recording button on the handgrip and the flip-out LCD screen,” comments Tom Paterson.
The 1/3-inch 3-CCD GY-HD101E camcorder from JVC has HDVTM and DV in & out, and is supplied as standard with a detachable 1/3-inch bayonet mount 16x Fujinon lens. This allows the cameraman to work with a wide variety of professional lenses. The convenient menu operation makes it easy to set time code at the beginning of a tape. The camera is lightweight enabling it to be easily either shoulder mounted or hand held.
“I found the professional lens on the front of the JVC camera very easy to operate. The camera is of a solid construction and the controls and switches are all in established places and within easy reach. The combination of the camera and the new IDX-100E power pack allows up to 4 hours recording time and provides an even balance when the camcorder is positioned on the shoulder. A lightweight Teletest (2.4 GHz) audio and video transmitter is also used.”
“Whilst the camera was not used in 720p mode, (the production was not equipped for HDV editing) it performed extremely well in DV mode and performed favorably compared with other camcorders previously used on this production.”
Ian Scott, Director, Pro Video Operation UK at JVC Professional Europe comments, “The GY-HD101E has been put through its paces on this production and has proved its ease of use, versatility and quality of output. This combined with the low cost of ownership make it an extremely effective tool for television productions.”
FIRST BLACK & ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL IN BRISTOL
(Thu 13 - Sun 16 Oct 2005)
Split Screen, Bristol’s first combined Black & Asian Film Festival, kicks off on Thursday 13 October 2005. Expect a stunning selection of international features, shorts and documentaries from Africa, the Caribbean and the fringes of Bollywood through to local shorts and archive footage from days gone by. The festival is a collaborative city wide effort between Arnolfini, BBC Bristol, British Empire & Commonwealth Museum, Kuumba, South West Screen and Watershed which aims to give greater prominence to black and Asian filmmaking in the South West and inspire local talent.
The film festival, forming part of Black History month, will take place at various Bristol venues including Arnolfini, Watershed and Timbuktu Club.
The Split Screen programme at Watershed will include highlights from the bfi's Mama Africa touring programme, which features some of the best of African female talent from Moussa Sene Absa’s acclaimed feminist melodrama Madame Brouette to award-winning shorts such as Jacqueline Kalimunda’s Histoire de tresses (About Braids). Watershed will also play host to a screening of One Love directed by regular collaborators Rick Elgood (Dancehall Queen) and the legendary Don Letts (The Clash: Westway to the World), which started life as a musical stage show in Bristol.
Arnolfini will feature the latest and best films from Asia’s most recent wave of filmmaking talent. Michael Smith and Vishal Rawlley’s Asian Vibes Bombay and Asian Vibes London (India/France) explore the new musical sounds of India in unique documentaries that combine underground video aesthetics, archival Bollywood clips and an exploratory documentary approach. The festival will screen The Rising, the latest film from acclaimed director Ketan Mehta which charts the epic tale of Mangel Padney and India’s historic 1857 military uprising against Imperial rule, with Bollywood star Aamir Khan in the role of the fearless leader of the Indian rebellion.
There'll also be a chance to attend free hands-on film workshops, masterclasses, seminars, and meet the movers and shakers in the business.
The festival will open with Screen Shift - a showing of short films by highly regarded local Afro Caribbean artists, funded by South West Screen and Kuumba. This showcase of vibrant and compelling work is part of a positive drive to promote local artists and nurture their filmmaking talent. A number of BBC productions from BBC Bristol and the BBC Asian Programmes Unit will also be screened showcasing the very best of black and Asian talent within the BBC.
British Empire and Commonwealth Museum, BBC Bristol and Watershed are supporting a unique project called Empire Re-presented. The aim of the project is to work with four local artists to compose a music score and write a piece of poetry for two films to be created using archive footage from India and Africa. This will be shown in the main foyer at Watershed for the duration of the festival.
Carlton Romaine, Forum Officer at Kuumba said, “We have an excellent partnership, which is now supporting a real positive drive to bring black and Asian film work to prominence. I look forwarded to Split Screen becoming a major part of Bristol’s exciting festival & cultural calendar scene”.
Caroline Norbury, Chief Executive at South West Screen said, “Split Screen is a hugely exciting festival and forms part our aim to make diverse, distinctive and dynamic films available for all communities in the South West. We created the Screen Shift part of the festival to enable local Afrikan Caribbean artists the chance to develop films that could be viewed by a large audience.”
Maddy Probst, Exhibition Co-ordinator at Watershed says: “We’re really pleased to be part of this city wide programme of Black & Asian screenings and workshops. We’re particularly excited about showcasing filmmaking talent emerging from the South West alongside international work such as the bfi’s Mama Africa tour which features some of the best of African female talent behind and in front of the camera.”
Maithreyi Nandakumar, Media Education Officer at the British Empire and Commonwealth Musuem said, “This is a brilliant opportunity for local artists to access the Empire museum’s extensive archive of over 800 hours of film footage”.

The eighth IFFR Trainee Project for Young Film Critics of the
International Film Festival Rotterdam offers three young (under 30
years), motivated and talented film critics a chance to get acquainted
with the Rotterdam festival and the independent cinema of the world.
The project was created in 1998 motivated by the fact that young and
upcoming film critics get less opportunities to explore this range of
cinema and the festivals, like the International Film Festival
Rotterdam, that present it. The IFFR also organises trainee projects for
young film producers (Rotterdam Talent Lab) and young filmmakers from
Europe (Passions & Promises).
In the past seven editions we have welcomed trainee film critics from
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China,
France, Hungary, India, Italy, Lithuania, Russia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, UK
and USA.
Mila Voinikova (Bulgaria), participant in 2000: ‘If it wasn’t for the
trainee project I would have never had the chance to visit a big
festival like this. I met lots of interesting people, saw films from all
over the world, and was inspired by the spirit of the festival for my
future work. It was very interesting to hear discussions of experienced
critics. And since the trainee project, the editors leave me more
freedom in writing and choosing films.’
What to expect:
We offer three young film critics a press accredi¬ta¬ti¬on, budget hotel
accommodations during the festival and (part of) their airfare according
to their country of origin. The trainees are allowed to use all the
press facilities and will have time to explore all aspects of the
festival, the film and exhibitions program¬me as well as the debates and
talk shows. The trainees will operate among hundreds of international
critics, and are supported to meet filmmakers and industry representatives.
We want the selected film critics to really participate in the festival:
attend the FIPRESCI Jury-meetings, contribute to the IFFR Daily Tiger
and/or report their experiences on the IFFR website. In addition, they
should work on articles to be published in their home country. The three
trainees will form a small team, supported by the IFFR Press Office and
Daily Tiger Editorial Staff.
Criteria for application:
Age under 30 years / Fluent command of the English language (written and
spoken) / Demonstrable experience in film criticism (printed media,
radio/television, online) / Not yet established enough to profit from
facilities as attending international festivals outside your country /
Have agreement(s) with printed and/or online media to publish a report
or reports on the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2006.
Your application should include all of the following documents and
information:
• a motivation letter to support your application: explain why this
project and the Rotterdam festival appeals to you.
• your resume (CV) including your contact details and date of birth.
• up to three proofs, signed with your name, of recent work published on
(independent) film or film festivals (including English translations).
We appeciate receiving complete copies of your affiliation with your
articles or reviews.
• Information about your affiliation(s) (title, name of chief editor,
address, phone, fax, email account, periodicity, circulation, web
address, estimated page views per month).
• a recommendation letter (on company letterhead) of your principal
affiliation’s editor assigning you to cover IFFR 2006 and confirming
that your IFFR 2006 report will be published.
Deadline for applications: Friday November 11, 2005, notification before
Dec 9, 2005
We will confirm receiving the application to you and to your (chief) editor.
Applications can be send by email to press@filmfestivalrotterdam.com
and/or by regular mail to IFFR, Attn. Press Department, PO Box 21696,
3001 AR Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

JVC’s ProHD* camcorder delivered across Europe
Interchangeable lenses, ergonomic design, SD and progressive HDVTM images are the major selling points
RAI Centre, Amsterdam, Holland, 9-13 September, 2005 – JVC is now shipping the 1/3-inch 3-CCD GY-HD100E camcorder across Europe. Literally thousands of orders have been taken and JVC are fulfilling the orders to meet customer demand.
ProHD products can be used in combination with existing equipment and accessories, facilitating a seamless link between the current SD formats and the HD formats of the future. The JVC GY-HD100E is ideal for users who want to phase in HD production and ProHD is today’s most affordable and most adaptable HD solution. The ability to record on Mini-DV tape has enabled this remarkable revolution to take place.
Physical qualities and benefits
The camcorder is provided with a standard detachable 16x servo Fujinon lens and is equipped with a standard 1/3-inch bayonet lens mount enabling the user to work with a wide variety of professional lenses. As a professional system, ProHD products naturally include timecode reading and writing ability. The convenient menu operation makes it easy to present time code at the beginning of a tape. The camera is lightweight enabling it to be either shoulder mounted or hand held. A range of film accessories is now available with the camcorder including lenses, stabilisers, light controls and battery adaptors.
Philip Johnston, an experienced Director and Cameraman from the Small Video Company Limited based in Scotland invested in the GY-HD100E in August, 2005 to make corporate and educational videos for a range of clients’ needs. Philip is currently working on a corporate video on Diabetes for the Scottish Executive. The production will be shot using the GY-HD100E in 16:9 standard definition mode for final output to DVD for distribution throughout Scotland. Philip explains why he chose the JVC camcorder, “I chose it for the size. It is a professional camera with a proper lens without all the hardware added on. I have been waiting for this camera to appear because it is just the right size and it is not too heavy. It has a manual lens which is necessary for SD production. Basically, it has all the right ingredients. A bonus is that it comes with more ingredients such as the ½-inch and wide-angle adaptors as an optional accessories. This is the first camera that I have seen that has two headphone outputs which a bonus for sound mixing. I can’t ask for a better camera to suit my needs.”
Selling factors and benefits
The camera uses the 720p HDV format where it can capture and record progressive high definition and standard definition images with full resolution. If necessary, these 720p (1,280 x 720) images can be converted into interlaced format (1,080i) without degradation. It captures images that match those available from today’s top HDTV displays including JVC’s new LCD monitors, rear-projection HDTV displays and DT-V monitors.
Capturing and recording data at the film frame rate of 24fps, the GY-HD100E offers extensive user customisation of settings like exposure, gamma, and detail. 24fps recordings can be easily transferred on to 16mm or 35 mm film if needed.
Dave Blackham, Head of Operations at Granada Bristol comments on the camcorder, “The GY-HD100E looks to be a good choice of compact camcorder where acquisition of progressive 720 HDV images required. It is also good for shooting both interlaced and progressive DV. The 1/3 bayonet lens mount allows the use of high quality optics and converters such as P+S Technik optical converter and looks set to produce pleasing images. In operation the camcorder is ergonomically designed and is easy to operate.”
It records using the broadcast industry standard MPEG-2 main profile at HL-14. Offering far greater efficiency than frame bound systems, ProHD records at data rates at or above commercial broadcast rates.
Recent advancements in non-linear editing have made it possible to edit ProHD on virtually all popular NLE systems. Direct digital transfer through IEEE 1394 ensures the quality is maintained throughout the process.
*ProHD
ProHD is a concept of JVC’s affordable high definition solution and its format HDV. From the outset all ProHD models have been designed strictly for professional use and JVC has implemented professional features in areas such as timecode and audio.

Corrie Roadshow
Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati has spoken out in praise of North West Vision?s move to host diversity roadshows across the Northwest.
Shobna, who plays Sunita in ITV?s flagship programme, has endorsed the roadshows, which will help to reach communities that have not yet had the opportunity to work with the regional film and TV agency.
Taking place at venues well-know for embracing diversity such as Workers? Film Association (WFA), First Take,The Dukes, The Northwest Disability Arts Forum (NWDAF) and with KinoFilm BlueFiRe, the roadshows are intended to explain more about the schemes, funding and support available, and more importantly allow people to build relationships with North West Vision. The aim of this move is to sustain a more diverse range of talent in England?s Northwest.
The roadshows will be hosted by Emerald Hunte who was recently appointed as Diversity Officer for North West Vision. The UK Film Council (UKFC) selected North West Vision out of the nine regional screen agencies to pilot the Diversity Officer role. North West Vision has always been committed to diversity and over the last three years 32% of all lottery awards have benefited people from diverse groups/backgrounds*.
Emerald brings to the role years of experience in the field and is using her knowledge, energy and drive to make links with communities, identify barriers, find solutions and foster accesibility. In the future, she will develop a specific scheme to benefit emerging talent from wider communities and give input to trainee induction programmes.
Emerald and North West Vision are working closely with the BBC, BECTU and other partners on the Move On Up North event, which takes place in Manchester on 18th November 2005. This cross-industry, all-day event provides valuable networking opportunities between B&ME industry professionals and potential employers.
Shobna Gulati, Coronation Street Actress says:
"I am really pleased that North West Vision are taking the first steps towards encouraging and nurturing both existing and new talent through Emerald Hunte?s appointment. Addressing diversity in its widest context needs this type of action. I wish her all the very best in her position, and am looking forward to a new equality in film and television in the Northwest."
Alice Morrison, Chief Executive at North West Vision says:
?We are delighted that the film council has chosen North West Vision to pilot the Diversity Officer role and we are sure that we have picked the right person for the job. Diversity is extremely important to us and we already work to make our schemes and funding as accesible as possible, but now we have the resources to create internal and external strategies to ensure a level playing field and access to all.?
Emerald Hunte, Diversity Officer at North West Vision says:
?I love my job ? it gives me the opportunity to go out and meet some fascinating people and help to develop talented individuals that may not otherwise have access to our services. My aim is to actively champion diversity in the Northwest?s TV and film industry and to ensure that diversity is an integral part of North West Vision's work?
John Woodward, Chief Executive of the UK Film Council says:
?North West Vision is taking vital step forward in helping to achieve a more diverse workforce both behind, and in front of, the camera. The whole film industry recognises that film is a rich and popular part of our national life and that movies are a very powerful form of entertainment. But it is imperative that we create a more socially and culturally diverse industry in which people from all backgrounds can achieve their potential and give audiences a better chance of seeing films which reflect their own cultures and interests. This initiative is a great example of the charter in practice.?
* This fact has been compiled by North West Vision?s Production Department and taken from equal opportunities forms completed by individuals and organisations funded over the past three years.

THE BUSINESS
This new film is directed by THE FOOTBALL FACTORY'S Nick Love is a story of passion, crime and friendships tested to the limit.
Set in the Thatcher era with the cool sounds of the Eighties, THE BUSINESS is an action packed gangster flick set in Spain's sun drenched Costa del

REEL LONDON
Reel London is a new initiative for emerging documentary filmmakers. The aim is to train and nurture new talent through the production process, resulting in a half-hour documentary screened on prime-time television on ITV London. The concept is a partnership between DFG Films, Film London and ITV London. Reel London offers the audience the chance to view unique half-hour documentary films that portray the richness and diversity of voices present in London.
THE GRAND PRIX PRIEST
Dir: Simon Aeppli
1 September 7:30pm ITV 1 (London)
(don't miss it this thursday!)
The Grand Prix Priest is an intimate portrait of Father Neil Horan, the Irish priest who ran across the racetrack at 2003 British Grand Prix at Silverstone and bundled Marathon runner Vanderlei De lima in the crowd during last years olypimics. The film follows this difficult and eccentric character on his one man mission to tell the world of the second coming of Christ and the ultimate destruction of most of mankind through the art of Irish dance.
STRICTLY MITCHAM
Dir: Ian Lynch
8 September 7:30pm ITV 1 (London)
When most people think of Mitcham, glamour is not one of the first things that springs to mind. However in the heart of the London suburb, there is a colourful multi-million pound industry which has made Mitcham a familiar name across the globe. The place often known as the ?gateway to Croydon? is the world?s leading supplier of ballroom gowns and their fabrics.
We meet the foreigners who have brought the sparkle with them, find out why the sequin-littered industry chose Mitcham of all places as a location and watch the leading latin movers who play dress-up and dance.
BLEACH MY SKIN WHITE
Dir: Dami Akinnusi
15 September 7:30pm ITV 1 (London)
This documentary examines the motivation behind skin bleaching and why bleaching products still have a lucrative place within the beauty industry. The director will explore why some complexions are seen as more desirable than others. It features personal accounts of women from African and Asian communities talking about why they have come to use these ?fairness treatments? and how media representations of women have influenced this issue.
