Bol Bachchan

AJAY DEVGN AND ABHISHEK BACHCHAN TEAM UP TO CREATE DOUBLE FUN IN THIS SUMMER’S MUST-SEE COMEDY OF THE YEAR, BOL BACHCHAN

After the mega international success of blockbuster films Singham, Golmaal 3 and Golmaal 2, comedy maestro Rohit Shetty and Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn team up once again to create mayhem in the romantic comedy film Bol Bachchan, and this time heartthrob Abhishek Bachchan comes along for the ride. The film releases on 6th July 2012 by Twentieth Century Fox.

Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty, the most successful actor-director combination in Bollywood history, take the fun factor even further in this family comedy. Bol Bachchan will be superstar Abhishek Bachchan’s (Yuva, Bunty Aur Babli, Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna) first double character role, and is said to be inspired by the 1979 classic movie Golmaal. This modern version promises even more laughs, as the characters’ paths cross in a series of hilarious situations.

Ajay Devgn plays a gangster don with a decidedly bold dress sense and comical mannerisms. His character Prithviraj Raghuvanshi attempts to speak English with entertaining results! The talented Abhishek Bachchan portrays two contrasting characters, one is a confident, macho, moustached conman and the other an effeminate sidekick, complete with magenta floral shirt and a net vest – amusing antics, comic confusion and mischief can only ensue!

Rohit Shetty has the honour of being the most successful director of comedy-action films in Bollywood thanks to the success of the Golmaal franchise. Bol Bachchan boasts some of Bollywood’s biggest star talents, including a song cameo by film legend Amitabh Bachchan. The lead actors are joined by Bollywood beauties Asin Thottumkal (Ready, Ghajini) and Prachi Desai (Rock On, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai) and comedy stars Krushna Abhishek,Neeraj Vora and Archana Puran Singh. The film features veteran Asrani of Bollywood Western fame, Sholay.

The soundtrack has songs by talented singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya and the music powerhouse duo Ajay-Atul.

With a generous sprinkling of fun, comedy, action and an all-star cast, Bol Bachchan is guaranteed to be the film of Summer 2012. Bol Bachchan is released by Twentieth Century Fox nationwide on 6th July 2012.

Running time: 96 mins
In this twilight world the humans live alongside the blood-sucking predators as long as they stick to their diet of small animals. Ar (Jiang Luxia) – a non-vampire and her vampire-girlfriend Max (Chrissie Chau Sau-Na) cohabit happily despite their ‘cultural differences’. But, for Max and her vampire siblings, life is otherwise very dull. They experience no pain, cold, discomfort, touch, or warmth and without the thrill of the kill there is nothing to do except hang upside down in bed all day, think about sex, and loiter around street corners with their vamp-teen friends. However their non-lives are about to get a lot more exciting and very dangerous indeed.
Ar is a vigilante and hunts down the bad-vampires, the ones that feast on human blood so they can be destroyed for the good of the community. Luckily she has a sixth sense - the power to ‘sniff out’ vampires before they sense her. She is also searching for her lost sister Sue who may, or may not, have succumbed to a vampire love bite.
Ar discovers that a vampire lord is on the lose putting her and her vampire friends in danger and vows to track him down. Mung (Yuen Wah) the vampire Lord attacks and sucks dry other weaker (non-human-eating) vampires so he can become stronger and indestructible. We soon discover that Mung has also enslaved Sue to help him trap his victims.
Mung needs Ar out of the way and uses Sue to lure his nemesis into a trap for the ultimate ass-kicking, fang-tastic showdown. Will Ar manage to save her sister, save herself and live happily every after with girlfriend Max – there is only one-way to find out.
Lesbian Vampire Warriors is released by Arrow Films. It will be available to buy on DVD (£12.99) from 25th June 2012.

56th edition of the BFI London Film Festival

2012 DATES: OCTOBER 10 – 21ST
The BFI today announced that the 56th edition of the BFI London Film Festival, in partnership with American Express, will run from 10 - 21st October 2012 and enjoy both an increase in the number of screenings and venues, in new parts of the capital. As part of BFI Head of Exhibition and Festival Director Clare Stewart’s new strategic direction for the Festival, this approach sees the Festival shorter in length but significantly increasing its capacity for primetime screenings. This new structure, alongside the recently announced new programme categories, competitive sections and enhanced Awards, is designed to give a wide and diverse audience more opportunities to take part in the Festival and celebrate outstanding films from the UK and around the world from both new and established talent.

More venues, more screenings, new audiences
The new 12 day duration of the Festival will give a concentrated burst of film across more boroughs of London than ever before. The important cinema going axis between the major Leicester Square cinemas (Odeon West End, Vue West End, Odeon Leicester Square and Empire) and BFI Southbank will be maintained but the Festival’s reach will be extended into 4 new regional London cinemas: the Hackney Picturehouse, the Renoir in Bloomsbury, Screen on the Green in Islington, and the Rich Mix in Shoreditch. The Festival will continue to screen at the ICA and will expand its use of Curzon Mayfair, the Ritzy in Brixton, and Cine Lumiere, Kensington which will all screen films for the full duration, rather than the previous 3 days, of the festival. With a substantial increase in the number of primetime evening and weekend screenings, not only will more people be able to get involved but the festival also has the opportunity to significantly boost its commercial potential.

Clare Stewart, BFI Head of Exhibition and Festival Director said ‘The BFI London Film Festival is one of the jewels in the capital’s cultural crown and we want to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to experience it. Whether it’s a  film aficionado diving straight in to our festival programme or a moviegoer coming to the festival for the first time - more screenings, more venues and more London boroughs makes it a Film Festival for everyone.’
The 56th BFI London Film Festival runs from 10-21st October and is now open for entries:
Short films deadline is 22 June
Features films deadline is 6 July

FUTURE MY LOVE film celebrates EIFF world premiere

and Michael Powell nomination with concert by acclaimed Swedish New Tango Orquesta

Maja Borg’s documentary is nominated for The Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2012. FUTURE MY LOVE is supported by Creative Scotland.

EDINBURGH – The film FUTURE MY LOVE by Scottish-based filmmaker Maja Borg will celebrate its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) this week (Thursday 21 June). This documentary essay has been produced by Sonja Henrici at the Scottish Documentary Institute together with Lisbet Gabrielsson from Sweden.

FUTURE MY LOVE challenges our collective and personal utopias in search of freedom, claiming that “economy is a human relationship.” At the brink of losing the idealistic love of her life, Maja Borg takes us on a poetic road trip through the financial collapse, exploring a radically different economic and social model proposed by 95-year-old futurist Jacque Fresco.

Maja Borg said: ‘The free market is a failed utopia but we choose to stay. Like in an abusive relationship, we have lost our confidence to live without it. To challenge economy is to challenge ourselves, which is far harder than to complain about the banking system.’

The music for FUTURE MY LOVE was composed by the award-winning New Tango Orquesta from Sweden. Six acclaimed musicians have taken modern tango to new levels.

Celebrating the film’s launch, New Tango Orquesta will perform exclusively in Edinburgh on Wednesday 27 June.

Josef Kallerdahl (New Tango Orquesta) described their unique approach: ‘How much tango there is left in New Tango Orquesta is up to the listener to decide. At the end of the day, every concert is a new experience. That’s the only thing we know for sure.’

The film and the concert are supported by Creative Scotland. Other investors of the production include the Swedish Film Institute and Swedish Television.

Leslie Finlay (Creative Scotland) said: ‘Creative Scotland is delighted about the film and the filmmaker’s nomination for the Michael Powell Award. This is a wonderful recognition for Maja Borg’s vision in her debut feature. It showcases the artistic opportunities Scotland offers to filmmakers.’

Named in homage to one of Britain’s most original directors and inaugurated in 1993, the Michael Powell Award rewards imagination and creativity in British filmmaking.

Science Museum celebrates the art of climate change

New exhibition presents historical objects and art that showcase the human capacity to adapt to our ever-changing environment

Climate Changing Stories is the new exhibition opening at the Science Museum on 27th June with a different story to tell - from nineteenth century inventions that paved the way for today’s new technologies - to contemporary art and film which show us a glimpse of futuristic adaptations.

Combining science and imagination, artwork and artefact, the exhibition will bring together different periods and perspectives to show the range of ingenious ways humans have and will respond to the changing world around them.

The exhibition includes:

·         A story of five fictional plants from the near future
Artist collective Troika’s Plant Fiction tells the stories of five fictional plants that have been genetically modified to improve the world around us – including a creeper that sprawls across the city sensing airborne viruses and a weed that reclaims gold from disused computer circuits as it grows over landfills. Drawing inspiration from current biotechnology research, Troika play with myth and fiction to create a radical rethinking of our relationship with nature.

·         The very human story of resistance to change
A timeline display of light bulbs from 1890 marks the completion of the phasing out of the incandescent light bulb across the European Union at the end of 2012. Our light bulbs may be changing, but there’s a perceptible grumble about the speed and brightness of the new low-carbon bulbs. Rewind to the 1880s and there was a similar reluctance to swap the friendly flicker of the gas lamp for the incandescent electric bulb...
·         The surprisingly old story of London’s first ever electric taxi
Challenging the common perception of electric cars as a modern invention, the first self-propelled vehicle for hire, the Bersey taxi, actually appeared on the city’s streets in 1897. Now, electric transport is firmly back on the agenda with charging points in London set to double in the next six months and a futuristic ‘driverless electric taxi’ in the offing. Could the car of our great-great-great-grandparents present a solution for greener cities today?
·         The dizzying heights of modern power
The sheer size of modern day wind turbines is staggering. The public can fully appreciate the enormity of these devices by visiting the 14 metre long wind turbine tip also going on display. Despite its impressive size this tip belonged to a turbine blade that was an astonishing 40 m long. Taking advantage of the three-fold increase in blade length over the past 20 years, older, smaller wind turbines are being replaced with larger and fewer models – raising questions about how to use retired turbines sustainably.

·         The story of an uncertain future in Essex
Artists Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie have created a specially commissioned edit of their new documentary “Jaywick Escapes” for Climate Changing Stories. The short film and accompanying installation explores Jaywick’s evolving history.  Once famous as a holiday destination it is now one of the most deprived towns in the UK, facing flood warnings due to rising sea levels amidst painful local memories of the 1953 flood disaster.
Other highlights include designer Thomas Thwaites’ thought-provoking Toaster Project, one of the bright orange Sno-Cat vehicles used by Sir Vivian Fuchs in the perilous 1955–58 crossing of Antarctica, science-fiction-inspired 1936 visions of the future which have become a reality, the march of steel pylons across Britain’s countryside, a camera journey into the atmosphere, and the first recorded look at London’s climate.

Dr. Susan Mossman, Project Leader, said: ‘Climate Changing Stories offers a fresh perspective on our changing climate through the history of invention - showcasing the amazing human capacity to create and adapt in the face of change. The Science Museum collection shows the great feats of science and engineering throughout the ages, alongside possible visions of the future.’

Climate Changing Stories is a free trail throughout the museum that forms part of the Science Museum’s three-year Climate Changing programme – a series of thought-provoking events that accompany the Atmosphere ...exploring climate science gallery*. The free display will open on 27 June and run for a year until June 2014.

For more information visit www.sciencemuseum.org.uk

On 27 June the Science Museum will also open an exhibition about the Climate Science Outreach Project, a three year project designed to engage 13 – 14 year olds using science communication to explore climate issues. The three day exhibition will feature the work of 48 UK schools who were invited to submit a piece of investigative journalism about climate change in their area, uncovering issues from river pollution to community opposition to wind farms.

The touring Outreach exhibition first opens at the National Railway Museum, York on 13th June, before touring to @Bristol between the 20th and 24th June and the Science Museum between the 27th and  30th June where it will be on show on the second floor outside the temporary exhibition space.  The exhibition will finally travel to the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry between the 4th and 9th July.

*The Atmosphere gallery and the Climate Changing programme have been made possible by support from Principal Sponsors Shell and Siemens, Major Sponsor Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Major Funder the Garfield Weston Foundation, and with additional support from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Patrons of the Science Museum and members of the Founders Circle: Climate Changing programme: Accenture, Bayer and Barclays.

The fourth and final heat of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust’s (WWT) popular 2011-2012 Photography Competition opens today (1 June), held in association with Canon in celebration of the Scott Antarctic Expedition Centenary.

And for those who have only entered one previous heat of the competition, this summer heat is the last opportunity to be in with a chance to win an amazing trip of a lifetime to Antarctica. Only photographers entering three or more images into two or more seasonal heats are eligible for the Portfolio Photographer of the Year Award.
Following on from the success of the spring heat which received nearly 10,000 entries and a staggering 55,000 votes in the ‘People’s Choice’ category, the next season has much to live up to as interest in the competition continues to grow.

WWT is calling on all nature lovers and photographers to submit their most prized pictures before 31 August 2012 when the summer heat and the entire WWT photography 2011-2012 competition will close.

Spring heat winners representing each of WWT’s nine wetland centres will be chosen from each of the main categories - Wetland Wildlife, Wetland Landscapes, Wildlife & People and Junior Photographer of the Year (under 18s) over the next couple of weeks.  Votes for the spring heat People’s Choice category, where members of the public can go online and choose their favourite entry each season, are being accepted until 31 May 2012, when a winner will be chosen. All the regional winners for each of the four seasonal heats will go through to the national finals to be held in Autumn 2012.

Whilst photographs entered into all the other categories must have been taken at one of WWT’s nine wetland wildlife centres across the UK,  the World Wetlands category invites entries taken of wetlands large or small, good or bad, from all over the world. These can range from rivers in Rwanda, lakes in Lagos to creeks in Colorado, or even one of the most extreme wetlands in the world, Antarctica. A shortlist will be chosen from this category for each seasonal heat to go on to the national finals.

Finally, to be in with the chance of winning the grand prize of the trip to Antarctica, entrants must submit at least three or more photographs in at least two or more seasonal heats. If this criteria is met, the entrant’s ‘portfolio’ will be automatically entered into the Portfolio Photographer of the Year category. At the national finals, each portfolio photographer’s three best photographs (as shortlisted by the judges) will be considered with the winner receiving the Portfolio Photographer of the Year Award and the grand prize of a 12-day fully inclusive trip to Antarctica, courtesy of Exodus in partnership with Quark Expeditions.

The competition is being held in association with Canon, in celebration of the Scott Antarctic Expedition Centenary, and offers an amazing £50,000 worth of fantastic prizes for the national winners, including a grand prize for the Portfolio Photographer category of a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Antarctica courtesy of Exodus in partnership with Quark Expeditions Visit www.wwt.org.uk/photo for full details.
